Stove Top Smells for Thanksgiving

The next recipe in this Thanksgiving series is a recipe for a stove top smelly-good that you can have simmering on your stove top all day long Thanksgiving day. I found this recipe from @halfbakedharvest so allllll credit goes to her.

I’ve never tried it before but I’m excited to have this on my stove top on Wednesday and Thursday. I’m sure all the yummy smells from the Thanksgiving dishes we’ll be making are going to be so delicious, and this smelly-good (that’s what I’m calling it! LOL) will make it all even better!

Stove Top Smells:

  • 1.5 cups fresh cranberries

  • 3 tangerines (I’m going to be using oranges though!) halved

  • 3 whole cinnamon sticks

  • 2 star anise gives a strong black licorice smell (optional - I’m not going to be using this because my husband and I don’t love the smell of anise!)

  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves

  • 1 inch piece fresh ginger

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla bean

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 small branch fresh pine (I have been looking for this everywhere, but haven’t found any fresh pine….. so to me: optional!)

  • 1 cup apple cider

  • water

1) Combine all ingredients in a medium size sauce pot.

2) Fill the pot with water until it reaches 3/4 of the way full.

3) Place the pot on the stove and bring to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer, adding more water as needed.

4) @halfbakedharvest says that she lets hers simmer for close to 4 hours on Wednesday evening and then lets it cool over night and simmer again the next day, Thanksgiving day. I’m planning on doing this as well! She notes: just be sure to keep adding more water.
